These terms apply to any computer or storage drive left with us for assessment or repair, including data recovery. If any part of these terms is unclear, please raise it with us before leaving your device.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Summary

- A free quote is a rough price for the fix, based on your description of the problem. You may decline it at no cost.
- If we cannot fix your device, there is no charge for the attempt: No Fix, No Fee.
- No work is carried out, and no price is changed, without your approval.
- Please back up your files before a repair, as repair may result in loss of data.
- Payment is by cash or EFTPOS, with no card surcharge.
- Repairs carry a 90-day warranty on the specific repair we performed, and replacement parts we fit carry their own warranty.
Enquiries, quotes and diagnosis
An enquiry made by telephone, email, text message or through our website form does not book a repair or authorise any work. Work begins only once you have approved it.
Free quotes
A free quote is a rough price for the fix, based on your description of what the device is doing. It is provided at no charge and without obligation, and you may decline it without paying.
Because a quote is based on your description, the price may change once the device has been examined. If it does, we will advise you of the revised price before carrying out the work, and you decide whether to proceed.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis, meaning the examination of the device to identify the fault, is not part of the free quote. If we cannot fix your device, no charge applies (see No Fix, No Fee). If we can, we will tell you the price of the repair before starting, and the repair proceeds only with your approval.
No Fix, No Fee
If we cannot fix your device, you do not pay for the repair attempt. This includes diagnosis and any part ordered for the repair; any deposit paid for that part is refunded.
The same applies to data recovery: if no data can be recovered, there is no charge.
An insurance report is a separate service and is not a repair attempt. If you require one, please discuss it with us before leaving your device.
Approval of work and price changes
We carry out only the work you have approved. If we find during a repair that the work required, or its cost, will change, we contact you and ask for your approval before proceeding. We do not carry out, or charge for, additional work you have not approved, and you may decide not to proceed.
Repair notice
Your data. Repair of your device may result in loss of the data stored on it, such as files, photos and email. Please back up anything you want to keep before you leave the device with us.
Refurbished parts. Refurbished parts may be used to repair the goods.
As required by law, this notice is given to you in writing before your device is accepted for repair. This page does not replace that written notice.
Backups, data and data recovery
Please back up your device before bringing it in. If it does not start, please tell us when you drop it off, and ask about data recovery.
We take care to protect your data. However, a failing drive, a damaged board or liquid damage can result in data loss regardless of how carefully a device is handled, so we cannot guarantee that data will survive a repair. This does not limit your rights if data is lost because we did not exercise due care and skill.
Data recovery
Data recovery is not always possible. Whether any data can be recovered, and how much, depends on the condition of the drive or device, and can be determined only after assessment. We will advise you of our findings, and the price, before beginning the recovery. If no data can be recovered, there is no charge.
Any working copy of your data made during a recovery is used only to complete the recovery you have approved, and is deleted once the recovered data has been provided or transferred to you. Our handling of your files and passwords is described in our Privacy Policy.
Passwords and access
We do not normally require your password. If access is genuinely required, we explain why and obtain your consent first.
Access is limited to what the approved work requires. We do not view your files, photographs or email beyond what is reasonably necessary for the repair, testing or data recovery you have authorised. See our Privacy Policy.
Damaged and previously repaired devices
When you drop off your device, please tell us if it has been dropped, exposed to liquid, or opened or repaired by another party.
A device that is already damaged can develop new faults during or after a repair because of that damage. Liquid damage, for example, can continue to corrode a board after it has dried. If you are unsure of the risk for your device, please ask before leaving it with us.
Our repairs carry the consumer guarantees described in Returns, Refunds & Warranty, including that the work is carried out with due care and skill and is fit for any purpose you made known to us.
Parts and deposits
Some repairs use compatible parts, which are made to fit your device but not by its manufacturer, or refurbished parts. We will tell you clearly when a compatible or refurbished part is used. Apart from refurbished parts, we do not fit second-hand parts.
Some parts must be ordered in, which extends the time a repair takes. Where a part must be ordered, we may request a deposit. If the repair then cannot be completed, the deposit is refunded (see No Fix, No Fee).
If we remove a hard drive or SSD during a repair, it is returned to you.
Prices and payment
Prices are in Australian dollars. Laptop Clinic is registered for GST.
We accept cash and EFTPOS, and do not apply a surcharge for card payments.
Payment is due once an approved repair has been completed, before the device is collected. Where a part must be ordered, a deposit may be requested beforehand (see Parts and deposits).
You may request an itemised bill showing how the price was calculated. The request must be made within 30 days of the repair, or of receiving our invoice if that is later. As the Australian Consumer Law requires, we provide the itemised bill free of charge within 7 days of your request.
Collection of your device
We will notify you when your device is ready for collection, or if it cannot be fixed. Please collect it promptly, during opening hours.
Uncollected devices
Devices that are not collected are dealt with under Queensland's Disposal of Uncollected Goods Act 1967. That Act sets out the written notices that must be given and the minimum waiting periods before uncollected goods may be sold, and we comply with it. Under the Act, an uncollected device may be sold only after at least 6 months have passed since we gave you written notice that it was ready for collection, and after at least 28 days' further written notice. Please keep your contact details with us up to date, so that any notice reaches you.
Warranty and your rights
Repairs carry a 90-day warranty on the specific repair we performed. Replacement parts we fit carry their own warranty: 3 to 12 months for new parts, depending on the part, and 90 days for refurbished parts. Warranties begin when you collect your device.
If a part under warranty fails, the labour to replace it is included. Further detail on these warranties, and on making a claim, is set out in Returns, Refunds & Warranty. Our repairs also carry guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded.
